CHANGER at round table discussion on Research Methodologies

As part of the round table discussion titled Methodological Challenges in Social Science Research: Approaches, Reflections, and Contemporary Trends, which took place on Friday, 21 February 2025, the CHANGER project was presented by Associate Professor Ioannis Manos, of partner University of Macedonia.

The event was organised by the Culture – Borders – Gender Lab at the Department of Balkan, Slavic, and Oriental Studies, School of Economics and Regional Studies and focused on contemporary ethical and methodological challenges in social science research. Professor Manos’ presentation, titled Challenges and innovative changes in research ethics reviews – the CHANGER Project, explored the evolving landscape of ethical principles and their application in social research. He highlighted institutional developments and the need for a more critical and inclusive approach to research ethics, particularly within anthropology.

The round table featured esteemed academics, including:

  • Dimitra Gefou-Madianou, Professor Emerita of Social Anthropology at Panteion University, who presented on Ethics Politics in Anthropology: Critical Genealogies of Ethical Codes.
  • Eleftheria Deltsou, Associate Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Thessaly, who introduced the edited volume Experimental Ethnography – A Guide to Analysis.
  • Ioannis Manos, Associate Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Macedonia, who discussed CHANGER’s role in addressing ethical challenges in social science research.

The event provided a dynamic platform for academic exchange and reflection on pressing methodological issues, fostering dialogue on ethical standards and institutional responses within the social sciences.
