Two new Policy Briefs from the CHANGER Project address Research Security and the future of Ethics Review
The CHANGER project has released two new policy briefs addressing key challenges in research security and research ethics review within the evolving European research landscape.
The first brief, “Challenges and Recommendations for Research Security: Learning from Research Ethics and Integrity” (June 2025), examines how research institutions can balance openness in international collaboration with the protection of sensitive knowledge. It calls for a shared understanding of research security, better risk-assessment tools, and stronger training and cooperation across the research ecosystem.
The second brief, “Towards a Future-Proof Ethics Review in a Changing Research Landscape” (January 2026), focuses on the role of Research Ethics Committees and highlights the need to move beyond compliance-based ethics review. It recommends strengthening REC capacity and promoting proactive, dialogue-based ethics support throughout the research lifecycle.
Together, the briefs provide practical recommendations for policymakers and research organisations to strengthen responsible and secure research in Europe.
