CHANGER presents the “Dialogue Events”

Within the framework of the CHANGER project, a series of five Dialogue Events (DEs) was organised between October and December 2025. The events aimed to gather stakeholders’ perspectives on the institutional changes required to support the adoption of innovative ethical approaches and methodologies in research, as well as on policy options and potential new legal frameworks to address current challenges in research ethics and strengthen the protection of human rights.

Across all events, participants were presented with CHANGER’s key findings on the main challenges affecting European research ethics infrastructures, alongside the new methodologies developed within the project to respond to these challenges. The Dialogue Events brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including researchers from different disciplines, research ethics experts, members of university, national, and European Research Ethics Committees, representatives of non-governmental organisations and associations, research funding organisations, policy institutions, and representatives of the European Commission and other European bodies.

The first Dialogue Event took place on 21 October 2025 and focused on researchers working in cutting-edge fields and in projects involving multiple actors, such as stakeholders, private companies, and citizens, with 14 participants in attendance. The second event, held on 30 October 2025, gathered research ethics experts working across domains including artificial intelligence, genomics, and the social sciences, and serving in roles such as ethics committee members and advisors, with 17 participants. The third Dialogue Event, organised on 13 November 2025, had 10 participants and brought together representatives of European and national NGOs, as well as researchers and individuals engaged in the protection of human and citizens’ rights in areas such as environmental transitions, biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and the digital domain.

The fourth Dialogue Event, held on 18 November 2025, involved representatives from research funding organisations and policy institutions, alongside researchers engaged in shaping research policies at national and European levels and had 11 participants. The fifth and final Dialogue Event took place on 2 December 2025 and was addressed to representatives of the European Commission and other European bodies, with 7 participants.

Overall, the five Dialogue Events engaged a total of 59 participants and were coordinated and facilitated by members of the CHANGER consortium, contributing valuable insights to the project’s work on strengthening European research ethics frameworks.
