CHANGER promotes ethics-by-design approaches at research ethics workshop in Moldova

On 15 October 2026, the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the Republic of Moldova hosted a workshop titled “From ethics review to ethics-by-design: new challenges, tools and practices for researchers and research ethics committees.” The workshop brought together members of the academic and research community to explore emerging challenges in research ethics and discuss innovative approaches to integrating ethical considerations throughout the research process.

Constantin Vică and Alexandra Zorilă, from the Research Centre in Applied Ethics at the University of Bucharest, a CHANGER consortium partner, led the workshop, introducing participants to contemporary ethical challenges and practical approaches developed within the CHANGER project.

The discussions focused on the transition from traditional research ethics review towards an ethics-by-design approach, emphasising the importance of embedding ethical considerations from the earliest stages of research planning and implementation. Particular attention was given to emerging ethical challenges associated with artificial intelligence, electronic informed consent, gene editing, and organoid research, reflecting key areas addressed by CHANGER. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and a simulated research ethics review process, participants explored practical tools and methodologies aimed at supporting researchers and Research Ethics Committees in navigating increasingly complex ethical questions.

The workshop provided an opportunity to share CHANGER’s findings and innovative approaches with the academic community in Moldova, fostering dialogue and knowledge exchange on responsible research practices.
