VIDEO | CHANGER Café #2 tackles the ethics of digital images in research
On 29 April 2025, the CHANGER project held the second edition of its CHANGER Café webinar series, focusing on a critical and timely topic, Ethics of digital images in Research. The session was held online and brought together researchers and professionals for a deep dive into how digital image manipulation undermines research integrity, particularly in the biomedical field.
The webinar was held by MEFST partner, Antonija Mijatović, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Split. Her presentation offered a clear, practical exploration of image manipulation, outlining its forms, consequences, and detection methods.

Participants learned how inappropriate alteration of digital images can constitute scientific misconduct, contributing to wasted funding, ineffective therapies, and damaged public trust. During the webinar real-world cases of image-based misconduct were shared, common manipulation techniques were discussed , and both manual and AI-driven tools that help identify irregularities that might otherwise go unnoticed were introduced.
